HON. CECILIA ABENA DAPAAH TOURS WEIJA TREATMENT PLANT TO INSPECT WORKS ON REPLACEMENT OF VALVES.

The Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, Hon. Cecilia Abena Dapaah has paid a working visit to inspect repair works at the Weija site of the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) and has lauded the efforts being made by GWCL to restore water supply to residents in some part of Accra.

Her visit was in connection with an earlier announcement by the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) on the disruption of water supply to some parts of Accra beginning Monday, September 13, 2021.

The affected communities included Weija, Gbawe, Bortianor, Kokrobite, Kasoa, Mallam, Sakaman, Odorkor, Dansoman, Mamprobi, Agege, Korle-Gono, Korle-Bu, Laterbiokoshie, Mataheko, North Industrial Area, Kaneshie, Awudome Estates, North Kanishie, Abela La Paz, Kwashieman, Anyaa, Santa Maria, Ablekuma, Alhaji, Tabora, Tesano, Dome, Taifa, Achimota and surrounding communities.

The disruption was to enable engineers replace some faulty valves on the main 900mm transmission pipelines, which impede water flow and cause serious challenges, such as water losses, along the distribution lines.

The Minister was full of commendation for the engineers for working on schedule to see to the timely supply of water to affected communities whilst directing the GWCL to take immediate steps to put an end to the issue of encroachment on the company’s property which can impede future expansion of the water infrastructure to serve posterity.

The Managing Director of GWCL explained that the necessary equipment, logistics and personnel required to execute the project were locally procured with funding from internally generated funds from the company.

He also disclosed that new digitalized meters have been installed on some pipes to calibrate the water that is pumped into the system to ensure accountability and efficiency in revenue generation.
