Hon. Cecilia Abena Dapaah Launches the Bio+digester Toilet Construction And Installation Manual on Wednesday, March 30, 2022 Earlier today, the Sector Minister, Hon. Cecilia Abena Dapaah was at the 52nd Ghana Institution of Engineering Annual Conference to launch the Bio-digester Toilet Construction and Installation manual at an event held at the La Palm Royal Beach Hotel. Among other statements, the Hon. Minister reiterated that the Ministry, together with Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) partners are committed to ensuring that the right to access to basic sanitation need as declared by the United Nations (UN) in 2013, accrues to all Ghanaians irrespective of their social or economic status. She added that the Ministry in collaboration with other relevant stakeholders in the WASH sector has contributed significantly towards increasing access to over 124, 952 Household toilets constructed across the country. It is encouraging to know that, 98% of these toilets provided under the Greater Accra Metropolitan Area Sanitation and Water Project (GAMA-SWP) are bio digesters because the use of this technology has given serious boost in the provision of household toilets across the country. The use and acceptance of the Bio-digester toilet technology is largely because it is cheaper and easier to install. It has minimal maintenance cost and requires minimal space for construction. It is also environmentally friendly and saves water. For these reasons, the Ministry, through the GAMA-SWP initiated a process to document the entire process of constructing and installing a Bio-digester in simple, plain and easy to understand language with illustrations. This manual is expected to be useful to Engineers, Technicians, Artisans, Entrepreneurs, and Institutions in the WASH sector. The Hon. Sector Minister, during the launch, has noted that plans are far advanced for the Ministry to embark on roadshow of the manual in Technical and Civil Engineering Schools, organize learning sessions on the manual for all interested stakeholders implementing Sanitation projects across the country. To this end, a digital link will, in due course, be advertised in major national newspaper and online platforms for interested users to have free access to copies of the manual.
